Then, I guess, it will be as the last time: betwen 31st of January and 18th of February he'll come to Poland and Russia! That seems logical and that's the way it was before.
I only wonder if he'll be promoting the brand new album or just replace two songs from "The Return of..." with "Still so far to Go" and "Valentino", while all other songs on the list will remain the same from the 2006 and 2008 tours? That would be sad, as everytime he really promoted a new album in the past, there were much more new songs in his repertoire.

Hi all,

The question indeed remains: can he fill some big hall again, just like he did in the 1980s? Last year we've discussed the same topic by comparing capacities here and there. The biggest halls were, if I remember correctly, those in Minsk (Belarus) and Budapest (Hungary.)
Also, since he intends to play big halls isn't he really cash-strapped?
As far as dates for Eastern Europe, we know that Chris will play Prague (in the Czech Republic) on Feb. 1 and Ljubljana (Slovenian capital) on February 22, so between these two engagements he might perform in other capitals all the way from Moscow to Warsaw (perhaps in Kiyev this time?) and from Zagreb do Helsinki (at least once there.)
Take care,
Chris

And Westfalenhalle Dortmund ! Maybe Chris and warner are planning the new album for january and this Best of... is only for making money. :? Christmas is coming !!!

But if there will be a new album out in january Chris can fill these halls. :D

Key question is the hit material that he still does, which he said few years back that he would not do anymore.
With the old hits in the picture he can sell those bigger venues and the question really is about the money.
And now Warner coming back to picture as well that means that Chris gotta strike those euros even more.
And that ain´t good thing.

My ideal place to hear Chris would be smoky blues joint but that ain´t gonna happen....shame...

Hi all,
I should actually refrain from speculating "why" Chris Rea wants to fill big halls again (it's obviously all for money!), because it really doesn't matter to many of his ardent fans, including myself. We all have bills to pay and we all need some money
For me it's important he's touring again. Although I would prefer him playing his newer songs I will go to hear his old hits.
But this "big halls" approach is tempting me to say he, in a sense, reversed himself from "playing only blues." I hope the new approach will work for him.
Best regards to all,
Chris

Lets wait until the new CD is coming out on october 5th.

There will be a interview with Chris and why he is touring again. Maybe he explains why he changed to warner and doing the big arenas again.

Maybe warner lets him more freedom in his work.

I think that in the ideal world Chris would play only his new blues material.
He has played those old hits so many times that he must be sick of it already.
But the thing is, the common audience wants the hits and for the paying the bills
Chris gotta still do them.

Ah, everyone just think of it, smoky blues club where he could play his blues
without the ghost of the yesterdays hits.

Hey Mr Blues while I agree that a small blues venue with Chris playing would be perfect we cannot forget that if it was not for the past songs he would not be where he is today.

I'm only worried about his health, as it seemed that the controversies of playing not what he wanted to play caused that sickness he suffered around 2001-2002. Maybe indirectly, but still, I think one can find allusions in his interviews.

the link Beat posted at the beginning of this post has a very nice promo video of the upcoming tour (scroll down a bit to see the video):

Expect Chris to play Josephine, Let's Dance, RTH, etc, as he did on his last tour, plus some blues, and the new material, :-)

HI Jim,

Paul Casey will be on every date of the tour as an opening act.

I heard Sylvin Marc will possibly be on board. And the usual suspects, Neil Drinkwater, Robert Ahwai and Martin Ditcham will be there.

The rest, I don't know right now...
