Do you mean the "Radio Mindelo" CD, with her recordings from the 60s?
Cesaria Evora voice is a very good example of the Cape Verdean blues.
By the way, she was in Warsaw a week ago (on March 22) performing at the Congress Hall (Sala Kongresowa.)
Take care,
Chris
The "Cafe Atlantico" and the "Rogamar" were recorded with mostly Cuban musicians. I think that had significantly changed the style as well as the character of a very specific Caboverdian music. Cesaria, so to speak, "survived the operation" due to her special voice. I prefer (fancy) some previous French or Portuguese recordings with Caboverdian musicians at hand. So, I'll suggest you listen to Cesaria's: "Miss Perfumado" (CD 1992), "Sodade" (CD 1994), "Cabo Verde" (CD 1997) or "Cesaria" (CD 1995) to feel the difference....
Best regards to you,
Chris
Maybe there is some overkill in Cuban oriented music since BVSC/Ry Cooder.
I do have listened to the record you first mentioned but its the same as in blues records (like John Lee Hooker for instance) that i find them too old. (Like i have heard it all before)
Still great to hear you like Cesaria Evora her music
