Recurring Bits of Music ?

Post by alan1958 »

Hi folks , lets start the new year with a daft topic , namely Chris' habit of " Recurring Bits of Music ?"
You know what I mean ....., All Summer Long , Nothing To Fear , Espresso Logic and many more popped up on Blue Guitars ...........
BUT ..............how often does the opening tune of Dancing Girls pop up in his songs ...so far I have found three :
Dancing Girls ..................first 30 seconds
Julia...........................2min 20 - 2min 50
Texas Line Boogie...........2min 50 -3min 30
......................................................There may be more

And the main riff from Auberge can be heard 2 years earlier on ,I Just Wanna Be With You from The Road To Hell at 3mins 03 secs - 3 mins 41

I actually think it is cool to reference your own songs ,and I'm sure CR has a laugh doing it ......

Hi Alan!

I see what you mean, indeed, some Chris's travel from track to track.
Speakin'bout the Blue Guitars I can mention Just in Case You Never Knew, which has the same tune and very close beat to If You Were Me from 1994, Til I Find My True Love's Name, which recalls Reasons from 1985, and I'm sure I can name much more.

Just yesterday I was thinking over the tune and the rhythm of Do It for Your Love, the song from 1981, which has exactly the same tune as Josephine, although appeared 4 years earlier. On the Josephine 7' single B-Side we can hear a wonderful tune called Everytime It Rains, which collects the riffs from Soft Top Hard Shoulder, Heartbeat and so on.

I consider we can have an amazing continue :)

May your shadow never grow less,

Moreover, while listening to the latest Chris's brand new album track Let's Getaway, you can recall track 12 from King of the Beach - Waiting for a Blue Sky.

hi there, i totally agree with what you folks said, but i just wanted to add
Expresso Logic - Too Far From Home (Blue Guitars, Irish and Celtic Blues)
Que sera (Dancing With Strangers 1987) -When You know Your Love has Died (Chris Rea 1982) almost the same lyrics...
Friend you're like the wind that blows
Like the sea, you come and go
I'm not trying to tell you
How I think that it should be
Best wishes,
Ramona

... and the last part of "Let's Get Away" is taken from "Sun is Rising" from DDTSR :)
