Technical area

Post by PAB »

Hello everybody (sorry, I'm not fluent in english :? ),
It seems to be the place to post ideas. This site is full of information about the great Chris (biography, Tour, discography, even his family) and it's perfect to me. But as a fan of such a great guitar player, I am astonished not to find many information on the musical technique, the instruments, etc....
Then, on the councils of Bart , I begin: why not create a technical heading?
And this could be the first topic: which is the mark of the banjo Tenor that Chris uses on scene. The only thing I know is It's not that which is photographed in the book “Blue Guitars”. There is a good picture here:

Thank you very much, I hope it will interest some of us.

PS to Bart: you really deserve your Loto Arena Ticket. Check your box after the 11th of march. There will be an enveloppe with a belgian stamp on it.

Great site PAB, Thanks for posting! :D

I don't know much about the technical stuff, but my husband is teaching me to play his Fender!
(To Chris Rea music, that is. If I learn anything it will be to pick on his style, and Mark Knopfler's, just for my own fun).

I'm sure this will be an interesting thread. 8)

Thanks Lilybee,

I'm on the same way. Finally, I decided (4 months ago) to do something with the piece of wood which was in my room since 15 years.I also bought a Italia Maranello (which is cheap, cose a good Fender is close to 750€). Finding THE sound is not easy.... Open Tuning E on the third fret, etc ... but it's so fun to (sometimes) reach a note. Anyway, you're not obliged to play with the same tricks. You have to choose your own way. I promised myself to be able to play a complete song before the end of the year. Mental age: 15 years old. But I don't care.

Enjoy the music

Some of these links won't last long because of copyrights infringement...

Hey PAB,

As for the banjo, Chris is using a different one now; not that particular one on the picture from 2002. It seems to me his banjo is a Fender (no surprise) but not a standard one (I mean FB5x series). There are fewer ornaments on the body and fretboard than on standard Fenders and, of course, only four strings. So I think it's a kind of personal design for Chris but that's a Fender.

Thank you a lot for this information.
Sherlock is on the way.
Stupid I am, Tommy Willis was quietly talking with peoples from the audience in Antwerp, before the gig. I was 2 meters from him and I didn't think to ask him.
Thanks again.
