Hi to all
and a big "Thank you" to Chris and andrew fischer for posting both the interview and the two marvellous videos.

After having seen the Montreux videos many times now I think Chris Rea seems to be back to the sound of 2006 to 2010: slower, softer with a sound mellower than in the 2012 concerts, when he played so fast and much harder. He also develloped his solos with more soul and enthusiasm, in 2012 one had the impression that he just spooled off his repertoire as a mere duty. In Montreux he really seemed to love playing and improvising. Drummer Kirt Rust has also tuned his kit softer in the videos and does not play himself into the foreground as he sometimes did in 2012 when I saw the band both in Hanover and in Luxemburg. Always great to hear Neil Drinkwater and Silvin Marc. Anto Drennan is on his way to match Robert Ahway... After the Montreux videos I am really looking forward to the gig in November, hoping that Chris will stick to his new/old style.

Thanks again for posting,
have a good time!
Chris

Yeah, more nostalgic and melancholic in his style, but he couldn't be more Italian, in his playing now. I haven't seen him since his last Warsaw gig, back in 2012, and I'm looking forward to his concert in Munich, on November 18, 2014.
I'd like to say I didn't see anything wrong Chris chewing gum while singing "The Road To Hell" and playing "Til The Morning Sun Shines On My Love And Me." It probably takes his mind away from his daily dozes of pills and other medicines including injections.
Yes, he had aged, but aren't we all getting older every day...?
Best regards to all,
Chris

Could be nictotine gum? Might be trying to cut back on the cigarettes?

Hi everyone,

here is the news from Aug 22nd.

Chris is reported to be going to play a concert for the visitors of 2014 Sochi annual International Investment Forum on Sep 19th in Sochi Medals Plaza, Olympic park of Sochi, Russia. http://www.forumkuban.com/

There is no confirmation of this event on the official site of the Forum, but the information is posted on the official website of Sochi city administration and thus seems to be true. http://www.sochiadm.ru/en/

I think the performance will be in the same key as it was in Montreux on July 5th.

Hope the good news for the Russian will be confirmed soon. I also recomment to check out another amazing news I posted in this branch: http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewtopic. ... =60#p12616

Hi everyone up here,

CR's official site has finally come (almost) alive, after a couple of years. http://chrisrea.com/

Now that it shows only the tour dates for 2014 with links to ticket sellers and nothing more, at least for the moment.

Official FaceBook page has also been updated a bit. https://www.facebook.com/ChrisReaOfficial

Of course, no news on the awaited new studio release.

Hope for more coming soon,

best regards

Wonder will that gig at 2014 Sochi annual International Investment Forum on Sep 19th in Sochi actually happen?
Chris & management are at least quiet about it. I guess with the current stuff going on between Russia & EU (Ukraine crisis), they don´t want to bring it up if it´s gonna actually happen.

Hi MRB,

yes, everything is 100% officially confirmed.

There is a very funny news line in the article by the leading Russian official news agency ITAR-TASS. They wrote on their website that "the cultural programme will feature a Czar Jazz international festival and a concert of British star Chris Rea, who will sing with the Kuban Cossack Choir".

http://en.itar-tass.com/economy/750068

This picture I just cannot imagine to myself: Chris on stage with the Kuban cossacks... shouting "Let's dance!" and twisting... ))) They guy wrote this line is either a risky joker or just simply does not think much of what he is writing...

Yes but no official info from Chris Rea directly.
I find it hard to believe Chris would do any radical chances for his style of performing, that´s why I don´t believe on choir with Chris before it has actually happened.

Hi again,

of course Chris will not perform simultaneously with the Cossacks! It is just a dull journalist's line.

Here is a screenshot from the Forum's offical website:

Chris's planned performance is rather widely announced on Russian news websites, but as far as I know there are no billboards or official paper programmes.

I find it not surprising that there is no direct official information from Chris himself, because Montreux performance also was not announced neither on chrisrea.com nor on the official Facebook page.

Hi everybody, here is a short report about Chris's presence in Sochi.

Videos from the show:

I talked to a person who works at the hotel in which Chris and his band stayed at. This person also attended the gig and shot many photos and videos but of a very poor quality.

As I understood, Chris's performance lasted ca. 1.5 hrs, so it was almost the same as Montreux gig and the setlist also seems to be the same. And the band was the same - Neil, Sylvin, Anto and Kirt.

Chris was ordinnary himself and seemed not to care much of his image as usual - unshaved, wearing an old simple T-shirt, etc., he looked healthy and is told to have been dancing on stage. He was very warmly welcomed by the audience of about 1000 people.

The person who told me this also had a short chat with Sylvin, who was also very cheerful and is told to be drinking and laughing out loud a lot at the hotel's bar after the show.

There were cameramen at the show to project the image onto the big screens by the stage, so there is a change that there was a recording of the show; the person who I talked to has asked the organizers if the shooting was recorded.

Hope to bring more news soon,

best regards
Andrey

Hi Andrey,

Thanks for sharing.
So we know we can expect "a best of Tour", such a shame though, hoped for something new.
I will enjoy his show anyway. But a few new song would be refreshing.
