Another song featuring Chris not mentioned before anywhere

Post by andrew fischer »

Hi everyone,

just found a new tune for me which turns out to be featuring Chris on slide guitar.

It is title track from Graham Bell's 1994 album All the Romances.
http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/mus ... mances.htm
It features definitive Chris's slide solo in the very end of the song.

There was a bootleg compilation by some CR fan, which featured 3 other songs from this album, The Way I Am, Fine Yourg Girl and Long Way Down with Chris on guitar, but this song was not mentioned anywhere to feature Chris. However, it really does.

Moreover, according to this link
http://musiciansolympus.blogspot.ru/200 ... ocals.html
almost all Chris's band at that time participated in recording this Graham Bell album -
Chris Rea himself, Martin Ditcham, Max Middleton, Linda Taylor and Snowy White with whom Chris recorded Highway to the Sun the same year.

Does anybody have credits for All the Romances album? Because it seems some songs from it may feature Chris as an author...

Thanks ahead,
best regards

Still quiet here everywhere...

I have double-checked - Graham Bell songs were not included on Chris Rea and Friends at all, as well as some other CR collaborations, e.g. Adelena with Maggie Reilly, True to You studio album version with Johnny Halliday, Duets for One with Sir Elton John, Ceux Qui N'ont Rien long studio album version with Patricia Kaas and 2 Disco La Passione remixes by Adams and Gielen.

But to add more I found that not only Paul Rodgers covered Stone along with Dave Gilmour and Chris, but AxelRudi Pell also covered it for his Diamonds Unlocked album.

Still thinking over the authorship of the songs from Graham Bell's All the Romances... It sounds very-very Chris-alike...

Hi,

I have copies of Fine Young Girl and Long Way Down in my collection, intrigued by the two others you have listed. Two more to search for and try and get hold of. Thanks.

Found another amazing thing regarding Chris's collaborations and cover-versions by other artists.

This is the tranlation from Aida Cooper official website:
http://www.aidacooper.it/Aida%20Cooper%20Biografia.htm
"The collaboration with Lillo Rogati & Nite Life, creates "Bitter Sweet" which takes its name from the song written especially for Aida by Chris Rea"
Italian Wikipedia seems more cautious: "In 1998, after a pause recording during which Aida has never stopped performing live, along with the group affects Nite Life CD Bitter Sweet, containing among others the original song specially written by Chris Rea."
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aida_Cooper

The strange thing is the original Bittersweet Chris wrote and released back in 1984 and later it featured on Krays movie sountrack of 1990, while Aida Cooper's Bittersweet was released in 1995 or 1996 and it is hard to believe Chris wrote this song specially for her. Did she wait for 10 years to release a song?..

You can listen to this Aida Cooper's version of Bitter Sweet here: http://www.lillorogati.it/lillorogati/i ... category/6

A really interesting case - Bitter Sweet is a very rare Chris's song itself and even not every CR fan is aware of its existence. The more intersting is this cover version and the note of special writing of the song. Almost the same situation as with True to You by Johnny Halliday, but far more unclear.

Thanks everyone,

Thanks Andrew This song Chris sings
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7GSyL4yVcY
This song was used for the movie ''The Krays'' (1990)

Perhaps she made her version as Rod did this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=---

Do you listen it Andrew??

Hi Veherny,

Yes, I heard Rod's Windy Town earlier than any other cover of a CR song, just as soon as it was released back in 1995. Moreover, I must admit I like Rod's version even more than both versions by Chris himself.

The strange thing about Aida Cooper cover of Bitter Sweet is that is was released 10 years after the original tune was written, the same as with Windy Town by Rod, but it was stated that Bitter Sweet was written specially for her, while it is surely not the case for Windy Town.

Did you listen to that Aida Cooper's cover? How do you find it? I liked Chris's original tune much more.
