Photos of Chris in the pro's web portfolios

Post by andrew fischer »

Hi everyone,

here are some pictures of Chris which are now present on the web portfolios of several pro photographers.
Most of them I never came across on any CR fan site.

1. Dave Rushen - picture of Chris doing some shopping, presumably in 2011. What's in his bag, I wonder? And the everlasting full-strength Marlboro in the other hand...

2. Thomas Duffe - picture of Chris in a Blue Jukebox mood. I think it is 2004 or 2005.

3. Guglielmo Galvin - looks like a photo session from 2004

4. Thorsten Eichhorst - again looks like a photo session from Cologne in 2004

5. Bibi Basch - photography for 1996 La Passione artworks

6. Danny Clifford - photo series from Chris's performance in London's Dominion Theatre in 1978.

7. Richard Isaac - Chris live at Hammersmith Apollo, 5 April 2012

Hi all,

one more addition of a great live picture:

By the way, I still cannot make out whether the recording of this gig really does exist, though it seems to be 'weeded' a while ago: http://www.chrisrea.nl/community/viewto ... =16&t=1268

Can anybody pour the light on this?.. Thanks!

I don't know if it exists, date should be found in this site Andrey:

Only one time in those years Chris Rea was in Ahoy, with that kind of list...

Hi Anneke,

thanks a lot for your reply. The date I know for sure - it is the date of this photo - Oct, 11th, 1991.

I saw in the 'weeds' history that there was a recording of this concert - Ahoy 11.10.1991 - but then found Joan's confusing message here on forum and it appears as if Manchester'87 recording was taken for Ahoy'91 recording. That made me question the existence of the recording I do not have and never heard before.

Chris seems to have played at Ahoy quite many times, these are the dates I found:

1986-11-25, see this picture by Rob Verhorst from that gig:

Image

1987-11-10, see another picture by Rob Verhorst

Image

1990-02-15 TRTH tour

1991-10-11 (concert we are discussing)

1993-03-08 ("Down the Road" recording you own)

It seems Chris also played in Ahoy in 1985, these pictures by Rob Verhorst are taken either in Utrecht on 30.04.1985 (or was it 24.04.1985?) or in Ahoy (date?..) where most of his shots seem to be taken.

By the way, do you recognize the venue in this video? I think it is the same arena as in the pictures. It is obviously Holland or Belgium:

Never heard of this shooting, I think there was more than 1 song recorded then. I have a video mentioned as 11.05.1985 Telebox special (40 min.) on my "wish-list" but I know no details of it... Hope someone could pour the light on this as well...

Thanks again...

Hi Andrey,

The clip was made in Rotterdam, if you look good you can read Rotterdam on the banners (fish sails compagny), and there is one Stadium there, for Feyenoord, de Kuip it is called. It was made for television program called Los, Vast, with NCRV channel. If it was on 30 april, it was on Queensday. until last year a national party day, to feast for the Queen. So that might be possible!
Now it's a king and changed to 27 april...his birthday.
Ahoy is a venue with a roof on it, so it couldn't be there. Maybe they played several songs, but only taped one. Not uncommon in those days.
The only official bootleg I know of from Ahoy is the one i have, down the road in "93, but that is a different setlist. But you know that one. I have my doubts that it exists. to be honest.
I'll ask around to Dutch fans I know.
Best regards,
Anneke

Thank you, Anneke for such informative answer!

At least now I know for sure it is Rotterdam in the Steel River video and it is not from Telebox Special.

Regarding the date, I am not sure, it must be from the same time as Utrecht date which was Apr, 24 or 30 in different sources.

I think they might have filmed the whole gig but broadcast only small part of it as it was with St. Gallen 1984, Rock am Ring 1st day, Loudon & co in Glasgow 1994, Sonoria Milan 1994 etc.

Anyway, I have no data on this video before, so your information is quite useful!

For the existence if Ahoy'91 bootleg it can be either ways as many "lost" recordings reappear nowadays in digital era and many old records got being mixed up with others and wrong data emerges.

Thank you for the checking,

Best regards

Hi all,

Finally got some reliable info on the date of Steel River live video from Rotterdam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FquRSCjvn8w

There were special shows in that period called Kuipspektakel organized by NCRV Los Vast at Feyenoord 'De Kuip' stadium in Rotterdam. In 1985 the festival was held on Aug, 10.

So I think the correct date for Steel River live video from R'dam is 10.08.1985 (when Chris has just come back after 9 weeks on Formentera island where he wrote most of On the Beach album)

Here is the prooflink, where Chris is listed playing Steel River: http://zoeken.beeldengeluid.nl/internet ... expressies
