Another great find Lily , Thanks .................reading the article reminds me that I always meant to post an odd fact ...............I always played DELTICS in my shop , this is 10 years before he became a household name ..and it always amazed me that a lot of people asked me if it was a new Neil Diamond record ....I remember saying to the first guy , "He sounds nothing like him"  , but it kept happening .....all I could hear was Chris Rea , but they had never heard of him , and just said the name of the the artist that they thought sounded the most similar .......................still can't hear it ........or maybe I am just being stubborn :?

Hi Alan, :D which article above?

I have a clip that says:

"Why is this paper writing about a man who's been dubbed the British Neil Diamond?
David Lewis presents the case for Chris Rea", (on the right side of Chris pix)

Image

I don't have a bigger pix at the moment so I don't know what it says on the rest of the article,  , but i will be getting it soon.

I guess at the time of Deltics Chris was being compared to Neil Diamond a lot.
Mmhh, wonder if Diamonds was a play on words to take advantage of that fact....?

I do remember reading somewhere where CR himself was complaining the record labels were trying to brand him like Neil Diamond (or as he put it -some kind of lounge singer). It would make sense they were trying to make him mainstream and he was trying to play THE BLUES !
