This is what I listened:

"It's a dream I know. We all know so well.
Everywhere I go, she's only one step behind.
I could search the world over, but I'll never be free.
'til the morning sun shines on my love and me.
I've taken so many turns on this road;
don't know east from west, north or south, which is best?
And I will never know how the best way to be.
'til the morning sun shines on my love and me.

I went looking for my future on a cold wind to stay.
Wave goodbye to my best friend as he fading away.
Somewhere between fortune and a reason to be.
I found out just one thing matter, really matter to me.

All the busted and the lonely of my only true friend.
He liked a wounded old fighting dog waiting for the end.
And I would trade all my victory for just a short while to see.
'til the morning sun rises on my love and me.
oh, the morning sun rises........."

Can anyone who's British native correct my mistakes?

P.S. I am a Chinese and live in Hong Kong.

Ken -The Lyrics are printed in the Blue Guitars Ear book as follows;
It's a dream I know
We all know so well
Everywhere I go
She's only one step behind
I could search the world over
But i'll never be free
Til the morning sun shines
On my love and me

I have taken so many
Turns on this road
I don't know east from west
North from South which is best ?
I will never know now
The best way to be
Til the morning sun shines
On my love
And me

I went looking for my future
On a cold winter's day
Waved goodbye to my best friend
As he faded away
Somewhere between fortune and reason to be
I found out there was only one thing
That really mattered to me

Oh the busted and the lonely
Are my only true friends
Feel like a wounded old fighting dog
Wating for the end
I've exchanged all my victories
For just a short time to see
The morning sunrise
On my love and me

Hope this helps

Jim
Thank you very much for your help.
This is the first time I listen to Chris Rea's music. Occasionally I found this song on Youtube and love it very much right the way. It is simply excellent. Somehow I don't know how to express my feeling.

You've found the right web site ! I think we can all relate to your comments !
Keep looking for more of his music -it touched us all !
If you have ANY other questions you'll get an answer here !
THis song comes from Blue Guitars Ear book which is a collection of 11 CD's and 1 DVD coplete W/ C.R.'s artwork (which is also amazing).

An important correction: "I'd exchange all my victories..."
Printed lyrics are sometimes inaccurate, unfortunately. For example, in the 'Waiting for Love' lyrics there was a line "So full of life but refusing to shine" while in the book it said "So full of lies..." Big difference, huh? And a simple mistake in "Bajan Blue": they printed "Now what I love can be more" instead of "no more" that Chris was singing. Oh well...
Don't cry, baby don't cry
The worst is gone....

I've noticed some kind of mistakes like that above in the books and I think that's because Chris writes the poems first and he composed the songs themselves later. And the printed lyrics are Chris' original poems which may change during the recording process; depending the mood and stuff.
Especially seeing that both versions make sense.

Honestly, I don't think that 'full of lies' and 'what I love can be more' make sense, just like suddenly calling the song "...between Highway 61&48". I really think it's just that the printers did some hackwork and Chris didn't check. It happens sometimes, not only with lyrics, for example I think that the drum processing on TRFHBN's "Blues for Janice" was inaccurate as well at the end of the track.
Don't cry, baby don't cry
The worst is gone....

In my work i sometimes have to proof read things and it always amazes me that many people can proof copy and at the end of it all there are still mistakes !
It happens all the time.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more with you Jim. In my work I also did proof reading a lot and afterwards I always asked myself: "how could it be possible I overlooked this one?" I happened to me all the time, too. And in the case of lyrics, the author (Chris) could as well keep on changing the words as he sang a song, in a studio or at the concert. It also happens all the time. So, he could have presented someone at his record company with a set of lyrics for them to print and then change them in the recording process. Also, I've noticed that Chris said a couple of times that he doesn't bother with listening to his recordings and doesn't have any records (LP, CD) of his own at home. Meaning (the way I understood it): he probably prefers listening to tapes, LPs or CDs in a studio and doesn't bring his work - home. Once recorded, over and done with...
As far as Italians and cooking, I know quite a few Italians and they just enjoy cooking and entertaining both family and friends at home. We would sit down to a table, eating and drinking (everything - from aperitivos, differet wines to endless espressos, Avernas or Grappas) and spend a few hours talking, singing (yes!), laughing and arguing in the best company there is. Just like that...
I wish we could have more of this in other cultures. People would be less aggressive and friendlier perhaps, too?
Best regards to you,
Chris
