Has anybody printed the booklet out which can be downloaded from JazzeeBlue in PDF.

I have downloaded it to my PC but not got a quality printer to print on.

Looking at it on Adobe it does look good with all the usual lyrics for all the tracks & great pictures of the paintings.

OK, I´ve listenned the first cd now. I gotta say that I´m kind of out of my mind here. Oh, what a set of music this is!?!? I mean, that was just the first cd. As I´m writing here I´m having second round with cd 1. There´s no mind to listen others before the first one is done well enough (a few times at least). Different kind of feelings are going through inside of me at the moment. Chris & co. are using great instruments on this album, some of them has never been used before on Chris Rea album. The music has sometimes Chris Rea touch on it but sometimes it also sounds something different. You could think that there is real african slave from 100 years ago howling on the background. This is a masterpiece.

Instrumental song starts the whole box, which is great move in my opinion. From that first song you can tell that this is gonna be something amazing. Few first tracks are coming in as a one big production, no pauses between tracks. It´s like you are listenning one massive song which changes along the way. Well, what can I say, it works. A lot of religious songs here, God and devil. A lot of pain, sorrow and racialist moments when the white man puts down black man. But as everyone knows, there ain´t no blues without those happy moments, like Sweet sunday. A gospel end on a tracks, like for example Sing out the devil and Praise the lord.

I quess after this first album everyone understands where the blues came from.

A modern blues classic. As I´m sure also these rest of cd´s will be too :)

CD number 2. Well, I know I´m making my reviews way too soon, but I can´t help it, I want to write about this moment of joy to all of you who doesn´t have Blue Guitars yet :)

Cd 2 is the Country Blues album. Country Blues hasn´t ever been my favorite category of blues but when Chris does it, it can´t go wrong :)
Of course you can hear pure country blues here, but it´s done with Chris Rea style and that way it works with me. What can I say, great singing voice, lyrics and guitar playing does a lot :)

While listenning cd 2 you can close your eyes and drift away far from home to some desert road, sun is way too hot even that desert wind tries to cool you. You drift away to some jukejoint middle of nowhere, ladies with low clothing, whiskey is going down, outside there´s some guy playing dobro and singing blues in some corner.

You can imagine that crossroads where Mr. Robert Johnson met Devil himself and made the trade which change his life for good.

Another good work here, although I like the cd 1 more than this :)

Here we go again, the disc number 3. Louisiana & New Orleans is the subject this time. First thing which is different to first 2 albums is that because of New Orleans area here´s some songs in France language.
It´s actually just nice thing to hear some different language. Sometimes this album reminds me about Dr. John´s music. But just a little bit, because no matter what, here´s always Chris Rea touch in the music :)
In my opinion the album has mostly joyous and happy tunes although the lyrics may sound blue. The happy album of the box perhaps? :) My favorite tracks here are Two Days Missing Down The Viper Room, One Night With You, Talking 'Bout New Orleans and Le Fleur De La Vie. I gotta say that this album ain´t that good as number 1, but it´s good as number 2. By the way I love that buzz from old records in these albums, I mean the buzz from old LP´s, you know what I mean? :)

By the way Pam, I´m waiting for your reviews?? :)

CD 4 is the first with a real electric blues jus like the name Electric Memphis Blues says. At first let me tell you, this is one of the best albums in this box. Almost every song here is brilliant and even those which ain´t brilliant are very good too :) Soup of the day from Espresso logic would be perfect on this album :D What can I say, great electric blues with Chris Rea style. No need to talk about this more :)

Hi - I have been away for a while - finally got my copy today

Firstly, may I say that any artist would be proud to have produced not just the 11/12 cds, but the book with artwork/lyrics/interview - the whole package is very special.
I have just logged on hoping for reviews of other CDs (thank you all!) otherwise I might just keep listening to CD8 over and over! I can't really give an objective review - just to say it is Chris through and through. This CD makes me understand why I have been listening to Chris's music for the last 27 years! I hope it does not sound too much like a cliche if I say it is 'toe tapping' blues. I just love music that makes you want to move/dance and puts a smile on your face (editing this later to say - is that a contradiction, that blues can put a smile on your face??)
The guitar is great and some of the lyrics echo a previous thread about living life honestly and true to ideals:

And your life is blowing over a little faster every day ... does what's around you really matter? Now the truth has got you undone..

I have also listened to Latin Blues (10) - this one will probably not be my favourite, but there are some excellent tracks - Bajan Blue, for example. Now I have started at CD1 and am working my way through!

"Call on Chris, he's got some good times waiting"

If this is what Chris is about then it's just a shame it took him so long and to suffer an almost life-taking illness to get there. Emotion and passion oozing from every note. The best thing Chris has ever done until the next thing he does. Can't wait to see him live in concert with this material - it will be fantastic and anyone who saw Stony Road or Blue Jukebox live will know exactly what I am talking about. If he does 'Cry for Home' live I will die a happy man. Absolutely awesome lyrics and superb guitar work and the chant with Sylvin Marc has hair standing up on the back of my neck. Still listening to CD 1 - although I've had the project nearly 5 days now - I spend a week on each CD just to make sure I've heard everything and understood it. I have skipped through and have listened briefly to the other Cd's - disappointed to here both Nothing to Fear and Espresso Logic on Celtic Blues but can understand why they're there. - so what, the old stuff was good too. Anyway, Chris if you read any of the stuff on this site and you read this - keep doing what you're passionate about because I think most of us are passionate about it too. The blues - for me - anyway, is where my heart is. So keep going Chris and remember we are all behind you. And see you in Newcastle (again!!!!!) - God bless.

Hey Bluejukebox :)
Read your comments, and yes, there is some haunting stuff there. It will take a very long time I think to even scratch the surface. Following your praise of CD1 I am listening to itrepeatedly, and finding something new over and over again.
Took Electric Blues to bed with me last night, and it didn,t disappoint. I agree about "Nothing to Fear" etc. on the Celtic CD, but I love that track anyway. I don,t find it a problem.
Lost you again on MSN. Everyone seems to be having problems , (big ones) with their computer today. Catch up soon!

Hi all REA fans - just to say that different things are noticed the more the CDS are listened to - such as on CD8 'Come change my world' is like a Gospel Church song (to God??), and the next track is very much like Chris in the 1980s! The ballads seemed difficult (at first) to get used to after the louder, rockier Texas and Chicago blues. Two of my favourite of all tracks will probably be 'Too Big City' and 'Houston Angel' on Texas blues.

Finally, no disrespect to Chris himself - he is so modest  - I am coming to realise that this IS what he has been doing all these years, although I appreciate what he says about the Record Company not always allowing the music to sound as Chris wanted!!

I'm off to listen some more!!
