MRB he's talking about his families Icecream and Coffeebar ;)
Munich, Blue Guitars is truly awesome piece of work.
Munich-1983 wrote:As the postman didn´t bringt the new album today, I put the "Blue Guitars"-Book out again. And indeedn, on page 8, in the interview, Chris said, it was a "Coffee bar". Thats maybe the source for the expression that was discussed here.

And I must say, it was a beautiful experience to hear this older albums again. As the erabook came out, I maybe wasn´t ready for that musical change by Chris. And even in the former concert, when he played songs from Blue Guitars, I wasn´t thrilled too much. But now... when I lisren to "Head out on a highway" or "stream ttrain blues" ... I suddenly seem to understand Chris completely. Desireful-travel-blues...like on the new album.
And so I still desire the postman to bring new tunes in that mood to me next week.

Nothing yet so far. Track and Trace doesn't work in Dutch system. I know Royal Mail sorted it out in Rotterdam Saturday. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I think it won't be today.

No CD over here, record company really messed up this, pre orders should be at customers on a release day, no matter where you are! Chris said in recent german interview that follow up album is in works already, for sure won't order from so called official store, dammit!

Hello everyone,

bought the album on iTunes to find out if I need a physical copy and here is my first impression short review.

The assumption that the singles might not be the typical music of the album and it is in indeed the old style Rea unexpectedly turned out to be right. The 2 "roady" singles are the songs I love the least on the album and stylistically it had been better without them at all. Actually, there are maximum 4 songs out of 12 (i.e. one third) that are recent style Rea (3 singles incl. Last Train + Money). The rest is exactly like they promised - nostalgic sounds of CR brand Pinky (mostly) and Thinline guitars, with a hint of On the Beach, Strangers, Banana Skin and Blue Cafe albums.

It all reminds me a lot of my 1st listening to King of the Beach album back in 2001: old style Rea, even with lots of electrolics and a small band, after experimantal RtH2 album was like a balm for my soul, though with a couple of odd-sounding songs (title track and Tamatave) and no any real musical revelation.

The music also recalls a lot of the Blue Guitars songs, especially from the discs 7-11, which, in their turn, remind of the older albums named above, but I cannot say they are doubles or self-citings - of course, we all heard it all before, but this I love to hear (unlike the recent style singles) at all times, no matter the similarity.

Musically, I liked the whole album except for the 2 singles, even the widely argued Money. And of course I like the sound of real drums by Martin and the bass and rhythm guitars by Ahwai family, though the overall production and arrangement left me with mixed feelings (thanks to Neil Drinkwater and his "kids' Casio"). I also liked the mastering and engineering quality level, though mixing is not so great and the recording stage isn't either (apparently there is some home-recorded material left on the album).

So, buying the album on vinyl is a waste of money, while CD copy is worth it, considering the album is far beyond my worst expectations - it is much better than I could imagine, even concerning the fact that the old style material was written deliberately to help Chris get back on his feet.

For pre-orders, I am still very sure it is all because of singing by Chris as offered by BMG for the firt 500 buyers. Have patience or buy the digital copy)

I don't buy digital music, I want the real deal album as it should be. Why everyone should wait those 500 copies to be signed, don't think mine will be signed as ordered it two months after pre orders started? Also, how come record stores has albums, they got them earlier than release day, no reason to keep other orders waiting either.

Record company did not think people outside of UK, sure people in UK got the album on time as them was sent on thursday. But there was no decent planning to send orders to outside of UK in time.

I propose to listen to it many times. It's a heartbreaking album. Consistent with what he is living. I stay with the last tracks of the Album. Perhaps the only thing that reproached him would be a better production with arrangements with real brasses. Neil confirmed to me that In addition to the keyboards he played the accordion and the brasses gave me to understand that they left his keyboard
He has changed the way of singing perhaps because of the stroke. Destaco guitar performance at the end of last train. I am very fan of Chris and I can be very objective. I will only thank him for life for his music and keep on the road
i hope my album signed I listen all in spotify
Cheers

MRB wrote:Moving on, this sounds so painfully cheesy & cheerful and vain remake, original from Stony Road is really good one. Original is haunting and bluesy, Chris's vocals with minimal music on the background gives me chills.
And I liked how Chris did the same to Moving On as he once did to Electric Guitar for 2010 live performance (but not to 2011 remake, to my disappointment) when he turned a raw blues into a bright pop-sounding latina song. The song Money has also changed for the better compared to 2011 release, with its upbeat funky groove (which recalls me of Just Another Story, 1997 song by Phil Collins), though very poor recording and production (definitely the poorest on the album, you can even hear the uncleared electric noises in the quiet intro fo the song).

The broadcast has just finished. A short interview, Stainsby Girls, Two Lost Souls and Ain't No Sunshine cover - all just with piano only, by Neil Drinkwater. You can listen to the recorded broadcast now with this link (scroll to 1 hour 38 min.): http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0964vkm
