Hi Tobias,
this is not only your opinion. I also appreciate Jon's elaborate work very much. Banana Skin produced by Chris on his own was objective downgrade after Auberge, Jon's masterpiece, production-wise. Even the albums co-produced by Chris and Jon (Strangers, RtH) sound not so terrific as New Light, Auberge and even Chris Rea 1982 album, solely produced by Kelly. I can understand Chris's position - he wants his music sound closer to how he initially intended it to be, more of a live record. New Light, being almost all one-take recording, lost its live perception in post-production, while Banana kept it, having rather asquethic arrangement, but who knows how much greater Nothing to Feat could sound with real strings and without drum machines...
Best wishes

The official Twitter account seems to have been posting lyrics from new songs for a couple of days now, and yesterday they announced an interview on BBC Radio 2 to be aired today, where Chris will be playing something new!

Hi Elangelo and thank you, I guess it will be previously announced The Road Ahead which lyrics have been being posted throughout last week. Strange approach, though... About an interview, but I did not see any hints on it... Will be pleased if it comes true actually. But I think it is just an ordinnary radio programme in which Ken Bruce will intruduce a new song by Chris and nothing more.

best wishes

If you want to order: It's supposed to be a signed one...

Hi all,

I listened to the new song today and it was - ok. Not bad but not great, either. At least it sounded like a proper production - real drums etc.

But the song itself sounds like the 103rd variation auf a classic pattern Chris used to play so many times.
If this song is typical of the new album than I'll be disappointed in September...

Anyway I've just ordered a signed copy :D

Cheers,
tobi

single can be heard starting on 1:42:45 and at least this single is bluesy stuff.

- Really wonder how is the rest of the album?

- Good to have band sound!

- Wonder who are the musicians?

Hi all,

have not yet got a chance to listen to the song, but the online store reveals the cover artwork (absolutely disappointing - why do they use the images of Chris from 25-30 years ago?), the tracklist (only 12 songs with the names that do not inspire me much) and the release formats (as expected, simple variety, no surprises).

It is up to my expectations, however, that a new single is a 'typical good old Chris' and I hope the overall album is not to the same pattern and has more variety in its contents.

best wishes

To tell you the truth, the song disappointed me a bit. I'm glad they invited a real drummer, but he doesn't seem to save the whole thing. Personally I hate these synthesizers. If you can't afford real session musicians, why not ditch these miserable sounds altogether and play something raw like he did on Stony Road? All in all, that's sad, but I think we saw it coming. One of the clues were those lyrics on Twitter :?

yeah, song would be much better without them.

also song is so familiar sounding, for sure nothing new here for die hard fans.

I give this song 6/10 (listening it for about 7th time or so now)

Personally I like the song on first listen, sits somewhere between Gods Great Banana skin album and Stony Road.
Yes it is 'typical' Chris Rea which is what I actually like about it. There is no pleasing some people when asking for a new release, yearning for a more traditional CR sound. He does that and people moan :(

Me i love it and can't wait for the album and tour :-D
could this be true, could this be me..

He uses the same cheesy synth sounds he did back in '87

They don't annoy me on those records, they rather provoke a feeling of nostalgia :D

I don't see why this generic blues shuffle should be more traditional or typical than the songs from the last records???

Typical Rea would - at least to me - sound like a track from Auberge or On The Beach or Shamrock Diaries - or the likes.

But this sounds exactly like the songs he's been doing for some time now e.g. on Santo Spirito- except for the better production.

That is only my opinion. If you call it moaning - I'm fine with it.

well, this is only song 1 / 12 so there is a chance to get other style of music as well, but I thought there would not be recent years style of blues. This song could be in any album since Blue Guitars, thought there is better production.

Somewhere middle of song it changes a bit to older style Rea for a moment.

Me, I would love to have more blues from Rea, but it would have to be more raw sounding, synthesizers are no no for me :D
