yes and I guess Chris wants us people to concentrate on this tour so that´s why they haven´t published any official info about it on FB or the website. I think the info will come out after the tour is done. One wonders will this La Passione create a new La Passione tour with yet the same old setlist?
andrew fischer wrote:Thank you MRB, Ann and deep-blue-sea for your discussion, I have not been checking this forum or FB page since Friday so I was pretty much surprised.

Now it all seems to make sense - the best-of tour is requested as a pay-off by Warner who sold the rights for La Passione back to Chris. And this way no wonder that release is after the tour, not before.

I got reply from HR1! Seems like we never hear it.....

thanks for your mail, but sadly there will be no podcast of this show. If you can tell me the exakt time when Chris told about his project, i can try to cut it from our digital library.

Best regards

Recent interview which tells that Chris has:

"In recent years, Chris has redone a 1996 album called La Passione after he felt the original version “turned out shit"."

well, release is still missing, wait for that Feb 2015 :)

Hi MRB,

thanks a lot for this link, an amazing interview to read, with not much details but at least something to learn of...

Strange that the Blues Guitar book with 4 films and La Passione remake seems to be all the same release...

i think these persons who makes the interview are never familiar with his work, he could say he wrote the bible and they would believe it and write to interview which gets published. so us fans of course sees when something ain´t right, but all the other people will not know a thing.

Sure we can't 100% believe the words in the interview, especially when these are not the direct speech but a trivia text.

But there several very improtant cites of Chris in this interview, something he never spoke about before, e.g.:

“I’ve also been writing for two girls who will be supporting me on my tour,” he says. “I’ve written them from a woman’s perspective... I live with women!”

Sadly I do not even know the names of backing vocal women for this tour...

After the tour I’m going back to the ‘Chris Rea thing’, he says. “And I’m looking ahead two years.”

I can only imagine what he meant saying this. That he would sit in his studio inventing a new project he would not release?

You just don’t know how difficult that it is trying to live without your pancreas and my cancer has come back three times, once in my liver and twice in my kidney.
“I’ve had four operations since and I’ve been very depressed with it, but I just keep going and I’m very lucky for that.
“There are so many stitches and the biggest thing is getting off the morphine.
“You just hope you can have a six month gap, and go out on tour and get back into a rhythm. It’s the best way.
“When you are ill with it they give you horrible drugs and it makes you feel horrible.
“You just want to get up and play and be able to have a beer. That’s the best therapy, really.”

It is really sad to know and explains much why it takes now so long for him to get a new project finished and why the tour setlist is always the same - Chris hardly enjoys touring nowadays as he simply needs to get money from a tour to fund his health support and the new projects and thus he does not care that much of a set list.

They used to call it cancer and I knew very little about it.
“Now they give your condition a name and mine has only just been identified.
“For the record, it’s IgG-4 and when you have it your immune system attacks your own organs.
“It becomes a mass and that’s why they call it cancer.

Now it became clear why would Chris in some interviews call his disease a cancer and in some other he wouldn't.

Hi Andrey,

I don't agree on the "has to Tour to pay for his health", he says he sees it as a holiday.
In another interview he said, they were spoiled rotten,so there's pleasure in it! ;)

Hi MRB,

I am monitoring the information on this almost each day, and if I find something the readers of this forum will be the first to know, be sure. So that no luck so far. Chrisrea.com still shows past tour dates. What a pity...

Hi everyone again,

while there are no real news, why not to discuss something which is not completely new, but was not yet properly discussed?

I have put up a heap of rare pictures of Chris into the "Photos" section of the forum: http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewforum.php?f=4

There is also still a lot to speak about concerning the past tour details and impressions, see this branch: http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2724

There was a notable reissue of Chris's 1st studio album recently, here is the discussion with a prolific report: http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2716

Also more reissues are to come from Warner Music Japan soon: http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2723

2008 compilation album was released on vinyl in August which is also a very notable event: http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewtopic. ... 616#p12616

And there are more and more branches of "Discography' section, where the discussed issue are still untackled:
http://chrisrea.nl/community/viewforum.php?f=6

Hope there might be an alive discussion again soon in some branches...

Thanks everyone and best regards
Andrey

Andrey,

thank you for your posts - interesting as always. I cannot contribute to the topics you listed but would like to mention two things that I noticed:

1. The solo in "All Summer Long" (Shamrock Diaries) sounds very much like Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar solo in Bowie's "China Girl"! In fact I first heard Chris' song and later when I listened to "China Girl" which I really like I thought Chris was playing the guitar...

Rea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFfjCbUdBZw (fast-forward to 02:17 min)
Bowie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrERLeFseDA (fast-forward to 03:27 min)

2. Have you ever noticed that the live version of "Soft Top, Hard Shoulder" (unfortunately only played during the '93 tour) is very similar to the live arrangement of "It's All Gone"?

STHS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM9BdQedUxM (fast-forward to 04:30 min)
IAG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG1Iyn-SjW8 (fast-forward to 03:00 min)

Hope I catched your interest and we can crank up the discussions on this forum a bit :D

Hi Tobias,

thank you veru much for your post and your efforts to make the forum busy!

For the 1st subject (All Summer/China Girl): yes, you are right, the solos are pretty similar, I believe it is because both CR and SRV play Strats in the same tuning and in the same key here. Just a coincidence Ithink, but who knows... It is quite normal for Chris to learn from SRV, I assume, just like he learned from Ry Cooder or Joe Walsh.I do believe Stevie was also a living hero for Chris those days.

For the 2nd issue - you are right again, the passage in the middle of live version of Soft Top ("...I'm singing - soft top and a hard shoulder...") before the guitar solo is quite similar to the bridge part of It's All Gone ("...sail on, there's nothing for you here now...") after the main verses. I got long since pretty used to the fact that Chris often cites himsel in a way. E.g., This Kind of Love from 1994 tour is almost just a copy of the old song Joys of Chritmas with the new words. And both Joys of Christmas and Kind of Love cite Joe Walsh's Life's Been Good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXWvKDSwvls

To tell something new, I have just found a good website where you can check exact UK chart results for Chris's major singles and albums: http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/_/chris%20rea/
It is very comprehensible and gives more or less precise date of a single's or album's release.
For instance, I was pretty amazed to learn that Nothing to Fear and Tell Me There's a Heaven were so high-charted singles, just like such hit uptempos as Julia or Auberge.

Thanks a lot once again and best regards
