Eric Clapton is a favourite of mine, too.
When it hurts so deep and stays so long
Though it's dark you know where you belong
Then you will know...

...where the blues come from.

Eric Clapton was the first rock artist I liked. My dad introduced me to The Beatles when I was little; I never really heard "American" music, only British and some European. The Rolling Stones, Clapton, The Hollies, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc. My husband has done some work on his business for Chuck Leavell (excellent musician and the nicest guy ever, check his site here: http://www.chuckleavell.com/ ) restoring his Charlane Plantation here in GA. Chuck has played for many rockers, including eric clapton, (check this video from a long time ago, chuck plays the piano: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54FtPpeg_3o ) Chuck plays for the Rolling Stones since 1982, therefore, he knows them well, you know, Ronnie, Charlie, Keith, and Billy Wyman. Billy and Charlie played on The Poor Boys, which Chris Rea joined too in the early 80s, remember this video?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=so72pc7UcKY.

Lily, I don't want to exasparate you but unfortunately it's unlikely Chris goes to the U.S. :(
According to his interview on britsound (printed in the Farewell Tourbook) he'd only had three gigs in America but let Chris tell you about this: :)
CR: I've only ever done three concerts in the whole of America, can you believe that? I've done a small club in Texas. I did LA and I did New York. I always had trouble with record companies in America. I think it was because the way, the way my deal was structured in England. I was a subsidiary of whomever they took on in America. And America never really happened for me, and we were so busy in Europe, because I was fortunately selling in every single country in Europe, so that's just like the states in terms of volume. I never really had the need to go. You know, although I loved the music better than any other kind. I didn't feel like I had to go and leave my family. I'd love to fly in to Chicago to do a concert. I mean that would be like going to the home of Ferrari or something.
Britsound: If you were to ever come to America, you'd have our full support.
CR: Well that's nice to know. I know a lot of American musicians you know, who don't seem to have a problem with Chris Rea. It's just, well it's been one of those funny little things with the record companies, it's never quite happened. You know if, if you're in England and you signed a Warner Brothers and, you get caught with a certain record company that's a subsidiary of Warner's in America, and they're not actually doing the kind of music that Chris Rea wants to do, then you're in trouble from the word go. This kind of thing often happened, you know, and I was never a California person. I used to get very impatient with the way things were in LA. And, I certainly didn't know how to play that game.
So 'that's the way it goes... round here'

Chris

very intresting lists and I wont list all mine i Just wanted to say im suprised no one has mentioned David Coverdale and Whitesnake.

I say this because I knw there is a link between DC and CR by the fact both were in a band called Magdeline. ( At different times). From memory it was CR who replaced DC in the line up.

Apart from that both are awesome Blues singers.

Also thought there might have been a mention of Paul Rodgers... another man from middlesborough who sings some nice blues stuff.

p.s any footage/recordings/images of magdeline would be very VERY much appreciated.

right now listening to Emiliana Torrini (half Icelandisch and half Italian) "Heard it all before" is maybe a good starting point for Chris Rea to start with although i let him decide offcourse.

again a great record "Me and Armini".

Although Chris is still my number one, I have been listening to Paul Simon a lot lately; specially the "african influenced" albums... He is great!
