Hi all,
just found that web site, and registered in here.

Chris Rea : as anybody in the world, I know all his big hits, needless to name. I knew the guy for being one of the most "sensitive" slide guitar player. I was not a big fan though.

Until last night where few fellows (my band mates, they're all big fans) and I went to see him live in Paris (He plaid at "le Casino de Paris").

Well Chris Rea blew me away, that's all I can say. 2 hours of music, and, surprisingly enough (at least for me!) very blues music.
The deep voice, the slide playing, the man himself is an icone. Strong and subtle, never doing too much, but enough to grab the audience in his pocket. What a show. And there is one more fan now.

It seems this concert is part of the farewell tour... farewell? Despite of what he's been goign thru, I wish he dont stop. Keep on sliding, Chris.

few words about me : 47, 2 daughters, living western Paris, several occupations: slide guitar (http://www.ericslide.com) playing with a couple of bands; woodturner (http://www.lepuech.com); working as IT mgr for a big US company .It all makes me a busy man, but the music rules (even if it does feed me ) the balance.

I'll come back here.
Cheers

Welcome Eric !

I'm glad to read that you're a new and convinced Chris fan. I hope you'll get soon this masterpiece (or "chef d'oeuvre"if you prefer  ) called "Blue Guitars".As you may have already read somewhere else on this forum Chris won't stop doing music of course but it will be only under the name of "Memphis Fireflies" along with two other persons.

Hi Gerby,

thanks for your kind words.

I will also get me stony road. As I said on my previous post I did not know anything about Chris's blues background. He is such a talented slide guitarist... But I understand why he came back to blues (Gospel seemed to have a great influence on his recovery also).

It is a relief to see he will continue his art. His minimalist line up project seems to be in combination with blues roots as well I think. I'll follow it up.

Talking about the line up, I'll tell you the actual true reason I came to see Chris Rea in concert last night. Believe it or not, the bass player of our band "Iron Hand" is being given bass lessons by ... Sylvin Marc, Chris's bassist. And this is why Philippe (my bassist chap) convinced us all to go to the show and meet with his teacher. Small world, isn't it. Sylvin Marc actually lives south of Paris and ... he still giving bass lessons to Philippe. But we could not meet with him last night. I just guess they had to get some rest before hitting the road to Holland where they are expected to play tonight.

But most important was to see Chris Rea performing live, and that I shall not forget.
