Re: The Josephines

Andrew and all - I have just listened to all 9 versions that I listed above. No two of these are even close to being alike, regardless of length. All I was trying to a find out was what that Version #1 on YouTube is from because it is definitely not from Shamrock Diaries, Herzklopfen, or any of the ...

Re: The Josephines

Hi Andrew - That YouTube Version 1 is not the same as Herzklopfen. I have that and it is different. Herklopfen version is Version #4 on YouTube although the YouTube one is shorter 3:50 as compared to 4:28. Here are the distinctly different versions I have: Version 1 (YouTube) 4:17 Shamrock Diaries 3...

The Josephines

I know we've discussed aspects of this on other posts, but looking at YouTube today, there is a pictureless video labelled "Josephine (Version #1). It is approx. 4:26 long. On my Shamrock diaries CD the song is different and 3:54. Looking at chrisrea.biz's discography, Shambrock Diaries was the...

Re: Chris Rea "B Sides" recordings

Lily - Your meter reading fits perfectly!! You are a Readdict!!!  Wait for the bargains. Some of this stuff is more than twenty years old. Another month or two won't make much difference! You'll find the originals. Hey, I want that t-shirt, if anybody out these is also bidding on it. I ha...

Re: New Light Through Old Windows

Tina - As with my original post, I think we're asking the same question here and I think I have just answered it for myself based on Alan's posts. I always wondered if Chris re-recorded these songs in a different way bringing his guitar out front more, or did he simply do that by remixing existing t...

Re: Song Selecton/Version varies with country of release

From Andrew's list: Extended French re-record / La Version Francais Lounge (from 5.31 to 5.38) first released on French only vinyl 12” single 1987 also released on Snow EP 1987, Let’s Dance CDS 25.05.87, Road to Hell CDS 2.10.89 I believe this is the same version that's on ING as well. 5.37 with 2 m...

There is definitely a 'rap' influence in Road to Hell 2,

New Light Through Old Windows

Are these new recordings of old songs or remixes of earlier songs?? My 'album' notes just say recorded at Mountain Studios, Montreux, Switzerland and at Miraval Studios, Provence, France. No date. I always thought these were songs that Chris liked but didn't like the record company's original arrang...

Re: Song Selecton/Version varies with country of release

Tina, I totally agree. At first I didn't like some of the different versions, as I was used to hearing a song one way. But the more I listen to them, the more I appreciate them and how Chris can vary a song so much. Take Josephine, for instance. I have about 7 totally distinct versions of that song ...

Song Selecton/Version varies with country of release

Hi All - Since there has been all this talk about B sides and versions lately, and since I am listening to a lot of 'singles' these days, these thoughts occured to me. It seems that content varies with where the music is marketed. Japan versions have a few tracks not found elsewhere, German releases...

Re: Chris Rea Instrumentals

Yes, Lily, I agree. He is very particular and in total control. Just giving you a hard time, because title of thread and all other songs mentioned was "Instrumental" I watched the dvd of Blue Guitars and how he did exactly that, with that album too. The DVD that comes with Blue Gui...

Re: Chris Rea Instrumentals

If you can think of other instrumentals and songs where Chris plays some or all the instruments, please post them here. Hey Lily, I'm fairly certain CR plays some intruments on every song!!  Curious why you listed September Blue up there. Nice song, but not an intrumental, unless you hav...
